Some of my other work
On this page I’ve highlighted a variety of initiatives that look to the future, and some that show where I’ve come from.
AI in design
In 2024, a working group was created aimed at experimenting and identifying opportunities to bring AI into our design processes. This included content design and research too.
I led the workstream looking at AI tools for UX and UI designers. We spent time facilitating workshops with designers to understand where AI could help them and also experimented with a range of tools such as ChatGPT, Relume, UIzard, Adobe Firefly, Figma AI, and more.
At the end of the year, we presented our experiments and recommendations to the department and senior leadership.
Hackathons
Hackathons are a great way to connect with stakeholders across the business. It’s a rare opportunity to use blue sky thinking to rapidly solve problems for the business in a fun competitive environment.
In 2023, my team took 1st place in a hackathon aimed at bringing more engagement to mortgage customers in the NatWest mobile banking app.
In 2024, with another team, we were joint winners answering a interesting brief on what a banking app might look like in 2030. The core experience revolved around AI providing conversational insights based on user spending patterns.
Sparking a change in career
Before my time as a designer I was a business analyst. During that time I was involved in a project to refund over £10m to thousands of customers.
I led the technology workstream (working in Agile) looking at building a tool that was capable of assisting telephony staff in handling a large volume of queries from customers.
My role was multifaceted: As a product owner I was responsible for creating user stories, managing change requests based on changing needs from the rest of the project, and performing testing before releases.
I was also responsible for creating user flows and mocking up screens (in Powerpoint!). It was this aspect of my role that sparked an interest in UX design: Being able to see a product come to life and be useful to someone.
